This is a true story as relayed by Mrs. Alice Sprague that first appeared in the Waukesha Freeman Centennial Edition in 1959. It’s the story her mother told about a time when her mother was a young girl in the mid-1850’s and her first meeting with an Indian family. Fearing the worst, they are deathly afraid, only to later learn that her father was friends with the Indian family, and they had actually saved his life during his first year in Wisconsin.
