If Tombstones Could Talk

The tour of Oak Ridge Cemetery Saturday May 7th for our cemetery walk was fabulous for all who attended. Scott Bovee and Dana Houk, descendants of Eagle pioneer families were group leaders who told about the history of the cemetery, early pioneers, and burial stone art & symbolism. Everyone found the walk to be interesting and very informative.

After a lunch break, the group traveled to the Eagle municipal building to meet Victorian Undertaker, Steve Person, a former funeral director, who spoke of the history and development of modern funerals. He had several 19th century “tools of the trade” on hand for viewing along with caskets from the period. Mr. Person gave an interesting talk, and the group was impressed with all of the artifacts.

Thanks to all who attended, and a special thanks to all who volunteered! Pictures were provided by Elaine Ledrowski, Curator of the Eagle Historical Society.
