As in our pioneer past, hard work and determination bring success and produce lasting results. Such is the case with the restoration project at Oak Grove Cemetery in Eagle Wisconsin. Volunteers like Sandy Shorr have invested many hours and dollars, working with the “Eagle Cemetery Preservation Association”, and other organizations to restore our local cemeteries by clearing brush from grave areas, removing invasive vegetation, and raising money to restore broken gravestones.
On Saturday, October 23, 2021, Oak Grove Cemetery got a facelift with the raising of a new entry sign similar to the original sign that has been long gone. Local metal worker, Carl Roeker, fabricated the entire sign by hand. All the letters were hand made using a band saw, and scroll work was rolled by hand. Carl has worked on many cemetery projects over his career, leaving his mark on local history.
Thanks to the group of volunteers including past and current members of the Town of Eagle Board of Supervisors, the sign was installed and cemented in place.
