New Discoveries!

Hidden treasures often lie for decades, undisturbed in folders and filing cabinets at local historical societies. Thanks to improvements in technology, family heirlooms, long ago forgotten by those searching for pieces of their family history, are now being copied and digitized by historians, making them accessible for everyone.

This is happening at the Eagle Historical Society, where dedicated volunteers are scanning hundreds of issues of our old local newspaper, The Eagle Quill, and making them available online. We are also in the process of digitizing family documents, which will soon be accessible under the “People” tab on our website.

One of the first families to be featured will be the “Amann” family from Eagle.

  1. Hello. I am a 73 year old man, born in a small village named Eiane, in south vest Norway, trying to reach some relatives or information about my American family. I remember two visits of members of the family in Norway, in the 50’s and 70’s, but have since lost all contact. If there are still any members of the family living, and want contact, please do. The family I am looking for are the Thomson family, and I found some old letters from them when the old house in Eiane before it was burnt down. I have a few names and addresses from those letters: T.M. Thomson, 504 West Adams, Creston, Iowa and 208 S. Commercial, Eagle Grove, Iowa. My connection to my American family is through Marta Eiane or Eiene, sister of my grandmother, who as far as I know was married to another Norwegian, Mr. Thomson, and lived in the area of Eagle Grove or possible in Creston. Her son, Mr. T. Melbourn Thomson, wife Edith and daughter Dorothy Ellen visited Norway when I were approxx. 5 years old, and impressed me a lot. I hope I am not doing something wrong by using this internett possibility, and hope for an positiv answer.

  2. Thank you for contacting us! This is a real pleasure to know that our website has reached someone in Norway. However, we are located in Eagle, Wisconsin and the community you are looking for is located in Eagle Grove, Iowa. I looked online to see if there was someone you could contact, and found an historical society museum in the city of Eagle Grove, but didn’t find an email address for them.
There are a couple of things I did find – a website for the city of Eagle Grove, Iowa at https://eaglegrove.gov/?SEC=0F1D8C1C-96E5-4C18-B344-3C0EB57BAEAD&Type=B_BASIC
I also found contact information for
    WRIGHT COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
    1310 SW FIRST STREET
    EAGLE GROVE, IA 50533

Sorry I couldn’t help you more but best wishes on your search.
