We are looking for unusual and unique photos & images that capture the aftermath of the tornado that cut through Eagle on the night of June 21, 2010.  Does your picture tell a story in a unique way?  The Eagle Historical Society is sponsoring this photo contest to record the event as a permanent historical record of our community history.

Your photo may be a digital image or print no larger than 8 ½” x 11”.  Digital images should be emailed to the following link curator@eaglehistoricalsociety.org.

Photos may be submitted between August 20, 2010 and September 13, 2010.  The top 20 photos will be on display at the Museum starting Friday September 17^th where the public is invited to vote for their favorite.  Voting will close on Saturday October 2^nd and winners will be announced at the EHS Open House on Sunday October 3, 2010

The Eagle Historical Society and Palmyra-Eagle Community Band invite everyone to come out for a free Ice Cream Social on Sunday July 11th from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm at the Eagle Village Park located on Main Street and Markham Road in Eagle.  The cake and ice cream is free to all, with cakes baked and donated by members of the Eagle Historical Society and ice cream graciously donated by Tasty Z’s/Eagle BP.  Cash donations are welcome to help with clean-up efforts at the Historic Oak Ridge Cemetery in Eagle, which was heavily damaged by the tornado on Monday June 21st, and all money collected will go toward that effort.

The concert starts at 2 pm, featuring the Palmyra-Eagle Community Band, and will include the music of John Phillip Sousa, current movie and show hits, and polkas.  Amazing soloists will thrill all with a “Dixieland Surprise” and you can join in the great Audience Sing-A-Long.  Come one, come all to this annual Eagle old-fashioned treat with a patriotic theme, providing wholesome and great family fun! Remember Sunday July 11th 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm.

What a Winner!

Larry Waters was the lucky winner of a hole-in-one on hole #7 in the Eagle Historical Society Golf Outing held on Saturday June 5, 2010 at the Eagle Springs Golf Course.

We’d like to thank all of the golfers, hole sponsors, prize donors, and the volunteers who helped make this a GREAT annual event.

Proceeds from the golf outing help fund the maintenance and operation of the Eagle Historical Society Museum and allow us to collect and preserve printed materials and material objects for future generations to study and enjoy.

William Kline donated land in 1859 for the railroad to build a depot which put Eagle on the map.  The depot was located along the railroad tracks behind the current Eagle Fire Department and brought businessmen, families, tourists, and many others to and through Eagle for many decades.

Today we hear the train whistle as it roars through Eagle and wonder why it’s so loud, and why we have to stop at the crossing while the train passes; “Isn’t there a better way?”  But to the pioneers who built this area, that whistle was “music to their ears.”  It was the sound of progress, the sound of fortune, the sound of freedom of travel, the sound of adventure limited only by the imagination!
