Newly Bound Books

18 October 2018

Before and after photos of two books that were repaired by Grimm Book Bindery in Madison. Both books are used for research at our Historical Society Research Library.

One is titled “Portrait and Biographical Record of Waukesha County (1894)”.

The other is titled “The History of Waukesha County (MDCCCLXXX)”.

Do you remember how to read Roman numerals? What year is this.

Telephone Company Switchboard

10 September 2018

As a rule we don’t alter donated items but when we received this Eagle Telephone Company switchboard our hope was to restore it. It had been repurposed into a dressing table and if you look closely you can see where holes from the switches and cords had been filled in.

We couldn’t find any photos of the original switchboard. EHS member Jim Neist researched switchboards and crafted this generic switchboard. This will give visitors a more realistic idea of how a switchboard functioned.

Thank you Jim!

Harley-Davidson 115th Anniversary

31 August 2018

The sound of thunder is roaring on the roads of Wisconsin as motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world descend on Milwaukee’s Harley-Davidson for their 115th Anniversary.  Many riders will take to the highways and byways to see some of the beautiful scenery Wisconsin has to offer including Eagle.  Did you know that motorcycles have traveled through Eagle for just as long?  While they weren’t all Harleys with that deep-throated exhaust, they were the latest fashion of the day.   Here are a few postcards.  (Click on image for a closer look)
